Half Dolls were very popular between 1900-1920. They were purely adult extravagances for the dressing table or for keeping the teapot warm. Those produced in the early part of the 20th century were styled somewhat similar to the 18th century Meissen dolls with elegant hairstyles and ornate clothes. Then in the twenties the flapper models came in with fun-loving figures to adorn various household items.
This lovely German creation features a flapper model dressed in a white, pink trimmed gown and matching cloche hat. She is busy adjusting her long brown curls that are peeking from beneath her fashionable hat. A pastel pink ribbon is securely wrapped around her waist and extends downward in delicate layers before the bright pink, gold and yellow bristles of the brush appear. The half doll is marked "Germany" on the lower back side. The brush has a total length of 5 3/4" and the half-doll portion 2 3/4". Wonderful vintage condition with no cracks, chips or repairs; ribbon and brush are in excellent condition.
