Nippon generally refers to Japanese wares made during the period of 1891 to 1921. Nippon, meaning Japan, identified the country of origin to comply with American importation restrictions.
This lovely hand painted Nippon dresser/vanity set is decorated with single and pairs of blue birds encased in encrusted gold cartouches and connected by gold scrolls and floral creating a continuous garland surrounding each piece against the white porcelain blank. Each item is further adorned with gold bands, feet and trim. Pieces are marked in green with the Nippon #47 mark, consisting of an "M" within a wreath and "Hand Painted Nippon". The M stands for the importer, Morimura Bros. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; some minor gold wear.
The rectangular shaped tray measures 10 1/4" in length and 7" in width.
The covered hair receiver measures 3 7/8" across and 2 1/4" in height.
The covered powder jar measures 3 7/8" across and 2 1/4" in height.
The hat pin holder measures 4 7/8" in height.
