Hand painted porcelain expresses the emotional connection between the artist and subject. This lovely dresser/vanity set shows the artist's passion and understanding of beautiful floral arrangements and presentation. Executed in a small home-studio environment, circa 1916 by Etta Whelan. The individual pieces are painted on various porcelain white-ware blanks, circa early 1900's.
This gorgeous 9-piece vanity or dresser set consists of an rectangular-shape tray, powder dispenser in form of a shaker, round covered hair receiver, round covered powder or pin box, Perfume bottle w/stopper and hat pin holder. The items are decorated with clusters of Forget-Me-Not blossoms in variegated shades of medium to dark blue and delicate pink blossoms nestled among shaded green and golden foliage. The clusters are connected by slender brown stems forming a continuous garland around the pieces. All the items are divided into parts of pastel blue and soft creamy yellow background colors with appropriate gold trim. Each piece is signed and dated "Etta Whelan 1916" with no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint.
The tray measures 13 1/4" in length and 10 1/4" in width. It is stamped "W G & Co. Limoges France".
The powder dispenser measures 2 1/2" in width and 5" In height. It is stamped "R S Germany".
The covered hair receiver measures 4 1/4" across and 3" in height. The makers stamp is illegible.
The covered powder jar or pin box measures 4 1/4" across and 3 1/2" in height. It is stamped "Vignaud Limoges".
The perfume bottle w/stopper measures 4" across and 6" in height. It is stamped "Vignaud Limoges".
The hat pin holder measures 3 1/8" across the base and 4 3/4" in height. It is stamped "Vignaud Limoges".
