J.H.Stouffer Company, Chicago, was founded in 1905 and continued in business until 1952. Known as a premier china decorating establishment during the era of the other great Chicago decorating studios. Jacob H. Stouffer was the seventh of nine children, born in the village of Adeline in North Central, Illinois.
This beautiful Stouffer Studio hand painted porcelain urn (there are two available) is circa 1938-1946. Decorated on both side with a large orchid blossom and long slender leaves in gold outlined with black. The base, handles and rim is also adorned with gold. Painted by artist, Otto Podlala, who also worked for Pickard Studio, was paid $15 per week during this period. The urn measures 6" in height, 2 1/4" across the square base and 5" across the top. Marked with the Mark #13 in gold "Stouffer Fine China" circa 1938-1946, and faint mark of USA porcelain manufacturer. One urn is signed "O Podl" and the other "O Pod". There are no cracks, chips, repairs or wear; near mint condition.
