In 1883 two brothers, Alfred and Frederick Johnson, purchased a defunct pottery known as Charles Street Works in Hanley, England. By the end of the 1890's Johnson Brothers may have been the largest earthenware manufacturer in the world.

The "Jewel" Pattern Flow Blue China pattern, circa 1910, has a wide border of graceful scrolls, stylized leaves and decorative medallions. The gently scalloped and embossed rim with delicate gold edge, is named the laurel shape china blank. The dinner plates measure 10 inches across. Stamped "Jewel - 'Crown Mark' - Johnson Bros. - England". This stamp was first used in 1913. Each plate has a condition issue as shown in the photos; one plate has an underside flake that can barely be felt along the edge and does not impact the front of the plate; the other has a flake along the edge on the front of the plate; some gold wear on edge. Priced according with damages taken into consideration. A beautiful and scarce flow blue pattern.
