The full name of this company was “The California Cleminsons”, a California Pottery that produced mostly gift-ware and kitchen items from the early 1940s through 1963. As many small companies of the era they got their start in their garage which was located in the city of Monterey Park. It was originally Betty Cleminson’s pottery hobby that eventually led to the formation of their garage business. Her husband George helped with the business side while Betty did the designs and decoration. Later, because they did so well, they relocated to an actual factory located in El Monte.
This is a darling figural sock darner depicting the typical homemaker of the 1950's. Wonderful earth tones of off-white, tan, dark brown, rust and medium blue. Her bare feet are present on the base of the figure. A very useful household item during the 1940's and 1950's when darning the family socks was necessary to help maintain the household budget during an era before the throw-a-way society took over. The darner measures 5" in height with no cracks, chips or repairs; the original hair ribbon is gone, now you can add your own creative touch.
