Glenn F. Bastian, 1890-1966, was a native of Gas City, Indiana. Born in Fort Seneca, Ohio, he moved with his parents to Gas City, Indiana in 1900. He pursued many occupations including store manager, clothing store clerk and bank employee. It is believed he started painting after joining the Army in WWI and being quarantined in France with tuberculous. Besides oil paintings of floral and landscape motifs, he also created bird pictures consisting of bird feathers he would obtain in Mexico. He never married, but had two brothers. He also did some paintings under the name of GB.
This lovely pair of small oil painting, circa 1930-1940, are entitled "Garden Flowers", and both, only slightly different, depict a round, blue and white vase filled with a gorgeous variety of blossoms in shades of blue, white, red, golden yellow and green. Framed in the original gold gilt frames, which measure 4" X 5" in size, the oils on artist board, measure 2 3/4" X 3 3/4" in size. Both are signed "G.F.B." on the front and both have the original paper label on the back "Garden Flowers - G.F.Bastian". Wonderful, near mint condition, with no damages.
