As an energetic young girl, Margarete Steiff fought for her place in life, against much resistance. With a pin cushion in the shape of a small stuffed elephant, created in 1880, she wrote the first chapter of the unprecedented success story, which is still being continued today, over 100 years later.
This wonderful, as well as adorable, Steiff foal or colt, circa 1930's, will fill your heart with joy. Constructed of light tan mohair and stuffed, probably with straw, the foal has a somewhat darker tan mane and tail. The ears are felt lined and the hooves are a medium tan silky material. The glass eyes are amber with a dark pupil. There is stitching to form the mouth. The left ear shows the remnants of stitches that held the Steiff button, which is now missing. The mohair shows spots of wear from years of love and playing, but there are no holes, tears or repairs, all original very good as found condition. The foal measures 9 3/4" in height and 8 1/2" in length.
