Satin glass derives its name from the item's velvety matt finish which is achieved through the application of an acid bath. The pieces can be either cased glass, two layers, or one homogeneous mix of one layer.
This beautiful Victorian satin glass ewer is one layer of glass. The color is a soft sea-mist shade, lovely shape with applied handle and tri-fold top. Hand enameled decoration on the front of the ewer consists of scrolls, ribbons and delicate floral in orange with accenting leafage in medium brown. The ewer measures 9 1/2" in height, 4" in width at the widest point and has a rough, unpolished pontil. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. A wonderful item of Victorian glass.
