Arthur Pepper was the owner of Mode-Art, a New York based company that marketed a variety of jewelry in a wide range of prices. The dates of operation are unclear, but most signed pieces appear to have been produced from the 1950's through the 1970's.
This lovely classic style, portrait brooch, reminiscent of Florenza jewelry designs, has a delicate antique gold-tone metal frame design set with small faux cultured pearls and coral beads. The oval portrait center is a transfer on an oval, greenish, faux porcelain disc and features a beautiful young lady attired in a dark blue, off-the-shoulder gown with gold brooch and long feather in her hair. The brooch measures 1 3/4" across, 2 1/8" in length and has a safety clasp mechanism. It is marked "Art" with a copyright symbol which was used after 1955.
