Celebrating 25 years of Antiquing Bliss
Mexican Modernist Sterling Silver & Onyx "Collar" Necklace - image 1 of 5

Onyx is known to separate. It can help release negative emotions such as sorrow and grief. It is used to end unhappy or bothersome relationships. Onyx guards against negativity. Onyx jewelry is worn to defend against negativity that is directed at you. Black stones have protective energies in the sense that black is the absence of light, and therefore, can be used to create invisibility.

This gorgeous sterling silver and onyx necklace is an excellent example of Mexican craftsmanship, circa 1980. The gracefully shaped band collar is adorned with a large, slightly rectangular shaped onyx slab measuring one inch in length. The necklace has an inside measurement of 13 1/2" with additional flexibility. The collar band measures 5/16" to 1" in width and the piece is stamped "Taxco Mexico BNC 925 - 0925 - TN-11". Wonderful vintage condition.

Circa 1979 a new letter/number mark to indicate the silversmith and sterling standard was introduced in Mexico. The first letter indicates the city/area location "T". The second letter is the first initial of the last name of the silversmith (N). The last number(s) indicates that he is the 11th silversmith with a last name beginning with that letter to register at the city assay office
