Walter Scott and Jonathan Cox founded the Ceramic Art Company in Trenton, New Jersey, in 1889. In 1906 when Cox left the company, the name was changed to Lenox Inc. This lovely 20-piece set consists of four 5-piece place settings. The ivory blanks are decorated with a laurel wreath of medium green leaves delicately outlined and highlighted with gold surrounding the border of each piece. The outer edges and cup handles are gold decorated. The rim shape is 'Athenia' and the pattern is X-421 which was produced from 1953-1966.
Each place setting consists of a 10 1/4" dinner plate, 7 3/4" salad/dessert plate, 6 1/4" B&B plate, 6" saucer and cup measuring 3 7/8" across and 2" in height. All pieces are stamped with an "L" within a wreath and "Athenia - By Lenox - X-421 - Made in U.S.A." There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. Two (20-Pieces Sets) are available.
