Hand painted china is so beautiful no matter if executed by a factory decorating department, professional studio or home studio environment. The quality of the piece is what really matters. This lovely 2-piece vanity set was expertly executed in a small home studio.
The set consists of two pieces that could easily be used for different purposes. The vanity box would serve as a powder or jewelry/trinket box. The talc dispenser could also hold fancy hatpins. Both pieces are hand painted with large white daisy blossoms against a rich pink background with gold shell-shaped feet and trim. The round box has an iridescent interior, measures 4 3/4" across and 3 3/8" in height; the talc dispenser measures 4 3/4" in height. The box is stamped in green with a crown and double-shield mark "Vienna Austria" which was used by four different New York importers, circa 1890-1908, the talc dispenser is unmarked. The pieces are not signed by the artist. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Simple, yet elegant in design.
