Charles Allerton & Sons Gaudy Flow Blue "Wagon Wheel" Pattern Child's Mug - image 1 of 6

Charles Allerton & Sons was founded at Longton, Staffordshire in 1859 by Charles Allerton and continued after his death in 1863 by his four sons. In 1912 the company was taken over by Cauldon Potteries, Ltd. under the name of Allerton's Ltd. until 1942.

This wonderful gaudy flow blue child's mug, circa 1900, is the Wagon Wheel pattern. Wide cobalt blue spokes alternating with iron red feather brushstrokes and embellished with copper lustre. Excellent example of the ceramic folk art tradition. The mug measures 3" across and 2 3/4" in height and is unmarked as were most mugs and cups. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; overall crazing.
