Hand painted china is so beautiful no matter if done in a factory, professional decorating studio or in a small home-studio environment. The overall quality of the piece is what really matters. This darling figural child's mug, circa 1900, was expertly decorated in a home-studio environment and initialed by the artist "B B".
The unique subject matter and professional execution of this child's mug is exceptional. Surrounding the mug is a continual scene of a Dutch girl and boy herding four geese along a canal. The children are attired in conventional Dutch clothing and the boy is holding a long stick to help guide the geese. In the background across the canal is a typical dutch scene of trees and a lone windmill. The color pallet of soft shades of green, brown, tan, red, yellow, white and blue completes the picture with all the figures and designs delicately outlined with black. The mug, with a brushed gold handle, measures 3 1/2" in height and 2 1/4" across the top. The porcelain blank is stamped "T & V Limoges France", circa 1892-1907. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; mint and probably never used. One of a kind collectors piece
