Jacob H. Stouffer was born in Adeline, Illinois. He opened his decorating studio in Chicago in 1905 which continued until 1952. The high period of Stouffer hand painted china appears to have spanned the years from 1905 to 1925. During this time the company employed some of the best decorators of that era.
This Beautiful hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1925-1938, is decorated with a fall season blackberry motif. Lush, ripe blackberries are nested among leaves of shaded green and variegated autumn orange and yellow. Several white blossoms peak out from behind the foliage. The background is a beautiful orange-rust fading into a pastel yellow with additional autumn leaves in shades of golden tan and soft gray. The rim of the plate is decorated with gold. The plate measures 8 7/8" across and is stamped with the Stouffer mark #11 in silver "Stouffer - Studio". The white-ware blank is stamped in green "Thomas - Bavaria", used by the Fritz Thomas Company from 1908-1939. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. The decorating is stunning and the colors vibrant. There are four plates available, priced individually. Purchase the set of 4 for $340.00.
