Minnie A Luken opened the Luken Art Studio of china decorating in her home at 747 West Harrison Street, Chicago, Illinois, in 1895, and endured in one form or another at various South Side locations through 1937. Minnie Luken was a prolific producer of florals and a few scenics. Her Forget-Me-Not pattern was a favorite of her customers. She worked for the Pickard China Studio for approximately one year, about 1912.
This lovely sugar & creamer set is decorated with her FMN pattern in shades of pastel to medium blue and white flowers accented by soft green leaves and floating blue petals. The wide soft blue border is separated from the creamy bases of both pieces by a band of delicate gold scrolls. The graceful handles, finial, and rims are gold trimmed. The covered sugar measures 6" from handle-to-handle and 4" in height; the creamer measures 5 1/2" from spout-to-handle and 3 3/8" in height and has a pearl iridescent interior. The sugar is signed 'Luken', the creamer is not signed. Both pieces are stamped in green "Z S & Co. - Bavaria", the mark used by the Zeh, Scherzer & Co. from 1880-1918. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or repairs; near mint condition.
