During the 1800's and through the first quarter of the 1900's the lady of the house used ornamental hat pins to help secure her large, fashionable hats. A special holder was necessary to hold and organize these pins on her vanity or dressing table, thus the hat pin holder was created.
This lovely hat pin holder, circa 1900-1915, is simply decorated with random blue-gray paint strokes over the white-ware porcelain blank. The tapered square holder measures 5 3/4" in height, 2 3/4" across the base and 1 3/4" across the top. It shows a partial stamp for "IT UNO - Favorite Bavaria", the export mark used by the C Hutschenreuther Co for U.S. wholesaler Burley & Tyrrell, Chicago, IL, circa 1912. There are no cracks, chips or repairs.
