Hand painted porcelain expresses the emotional connection between the artist and subject. This lovely ball footed nappy shows the artist's passion and understanding of beautiful floral arrangements and presentation. Executed in a small home-studio environment, although not signed, was by A. (Alice) Basedow. I have other lovely pieces executed by this artist in my store.
The beautiful pansy floral forms a wide border around this footed nappy with a gold trimmed edge and ball feet. The pansies consists of solid and variegated shades of soft yellow, purple, blue and rose with black beards and highlights with white eyes, creating a border of delicate faces staring at you. Soft green sprigs of leaves separate the blossoms and decorate the center of the nappy. The nappy measures 7 1/4" across and 1 1/2' in height. It is stamped in green "Imperial PSL Austria", for the Pfeiffer & Lowenstein Factory of Schlackenwerth, Bohemia, Austria, circa 1915. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. Lovey.
