Hand painted porcelain expresses the emotional connection between the artist and subject. This lovely set of 5 hand painted salad/dessert plates shows the artist's passion and understanding of beautiful floral arrangements and presentation. Executed in a small home-studio environment, circa 1910, by A. (Alice) Basedow. I have other lovely pieces executed buy this artist in my store. They are painted on Rosenthal & Co. Versailles white-ware blanks, circa 1891-1906.
Each of the plates represents a different floral motif which forms a wide border around each piece. The outer edge is enhanced with a gold band. The five floral motifs consist of Morning Glories in soft shades of pink, purple and blue; Wild Roses in vivid pink with deep golden centers and white stamens; White Daisies with deep golden centers; Pansies in variegated shades of soft yellow and purple and Forget-Me-Not in striking shades of deep to lighter blue. All of the different floral are nestled in foliage of shaded greens, browns and blue-green. The plates measure 7 7/8" across with no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. Would make a beautiful cabinet or wall display.
