For the first time in Olympic history, the winning athletes of the XVI Winter Olympic Games held in Albertville in February 1992, were awarded with medals of crystal set of gold, silver or bronze designed by Lalique. To celebrate this extraordinary event, Lalique created three commemorative Olympic paperweights in a limited, numbered edition like the Olympic Medals. Additionally, Lalique created a special 1992 Olympic Commemorative for the Lalique Society of America.
This lovely paperweight made for the Lalique Society of America portrays a female skater performing her routine. A round crystal disc holds the carved, frosted skater's image and is mounted in on a crystal base. The inscription reads 'Lalique Society of America 1992'. This paperweight was only made available to the membership of the society. The crystal disc measures 3 1/2" across and with the base stands 4" in height. I comes packed in the original box, paperwork and protective box sleeve. There are no damages, probably never displayed.
