A beautiful English oak cigarette box, circa 1890-1915, consisting of two separate lined compartments, each with a separate hinged lid. The construction consists of wonderful grained solid oak and steel hardware comprising angled corner pieces, shields, sculptured hinges and arched handle. On the bottom is an original label from "Jonathan Lewis Antiques Ltd., 24 Middle Street, Brighton, England - Brighton 23546".
The box measures 10" in length, 5" in width and 2 5/8" in height, not including the handle. The individual compartments measure 4" in length, 3 3/8" in width and 1 3/4" in depth. The condition is excellent with no damages or missing pieces. It is the type of decorative item that could be used for many purposes other than cigarettes.
