Jacob H. Stouffer was born in Adeline, Illinois. He opened his decorating studio in Chicago in 1905 which continued until 1952. The high period of Stouffer hand painted china appears to have spanned the years from 1905 to 1925. During this time the company employed some of the best decorators of that era.
This lovely hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1906-1914, is decorated in a beautiful Christmas poinsettia floral motif. Two gorgeous rich red blossoms are displayed against a background of variegated green leaves with hints of pale green highlights on the white porcelain blank. The slightly scalloped border is decorated with a graceful gold design. The plate measures 8 5/8" across and is artist initialed 'LOP". Stamped in green "JPL France" and the Stouffer mark #4 in red "Hand Stouffer Painted". There are no cracks, chips or repairs. The decorating is stunning.
