The Alfred Meakin, Royal Albert, Victoria and Highgate Potteries, Tunstall, Staffordshire was established in 1875.
This lovely brown transfer covered vegetable tureen in the "Westmeath" pattern is circa 1891 - 1897. The pattern consists of an array of spring flowers, tulips, lily-of-the-valley and other species nestled among spring foliage. The tureen measures 10 3/4" in length from handle-to-handle, 6 1/2" in width and 5 1/2" in height. The embossed handles and finial are quite elegant. The back-stamp is the 'Globe" mark, "Alfred Meakin - Westmeath - England". This stamp was used from 1875-1897, with "England" being added in 1891. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or repairs; some light staining on one handle, top edge of tureen base and several spots on the interior.
