The G. Demartine & Cie was operational from 1890 through the early 1900's. The company produced porcelain blanks for other decorating studios, both in Limoges and abroad, as well as their own decorating department which was called 'Avenir China'.
This lovely hand painted game plate depicts a beautiful game bird in it's natural habitat. The bird has a brown body, wings and tail, medium blue neck, head and breast with mauve under-body feathers. The naturalistic background shows grasses, bushes and a partially barren tree is soft shades of browns, greens, blue and steel gray against a light blue sky with billowing white clouds. The slightly sculptured edge is trimmed with gold. The plate measures 9" across and is stamped in green "G. D. & Cie - Limoges - Pat. Applied For". It is initialed in red by the artist "R B". It was either decorated in a professional studio or a talented artist in a home-studio environment; the quality is excellent. There are no cracks, chips, repairs or wear; near mint. #2 of 4 plates on the same blank by the same artist in my store. Priced individually, or $450 for the set of four.
