Old Hall Porcelain Works Ltd, Old Hall Pottery, Hanley, Staffordshire Potteries, was in operation from 1886-1902. Formerly Old Hall Earthenware Co. Ltd from 1884. Same printed trade-mark used by both companies with 'England' added in 1891.
This beautiful ewer, circa 1886-1890, is decorated with hand painted chrysanthemum blossoms in variegated pink, blue and purple nestled among shaded green and tan foliage. Each flower petal, leaf and stem is delicately outlined and highlighted with gold. The background is a soft tan to medium brown with sponged gold over-tones. The arched handle, tri-fold top and raised base is decorated with either solid gold or gold bands and edging. The ewer measures 10 1/2" in height and 4 1/2" across. The red printed trade-mark is a castle, 'Old Hall ' and '1790'; there are also printed numbers '3 over 3900'. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint condition. A beautiful and scarce piece.
