This designation "Marseille" is the series name of the china blank before it is decorated. These plates can be found in a variety of transfer designs, much like "Punch" plates from the same factory.
This beautiful fruit design, circa 1910, has ripe peaches hanging from a leaf covered branch, pink peach flowers and a stem of wild blackberries to complete the picture. The background colors are hues of chocolate, rich green and soft creamy yellow. The mark is "Marseille" over "Z.S.& Co." over "Bavaria"; this designates the Zeh, Scherzer & Co. founded in 1880. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or repairs; several minute wear spots in background colors. The plate measures 9 1/2" across. A super plate if you collect "Marseille", Fruit decor or just enjoy beautiful china.
