The Stangl birds made their debut in 1940 and were marketed until 1978. Collectors divide them into two groups; those made from 1940-1972 and those reintroduced on a limited basis from 1974-1978 after the death of J. Martin Stangl. The Stangl birds were loosely based on John J. Audubon's "Birds of America". The Stangl figurines were clearly decorative with much more vivid coloration. Various marks were used during their years of production.
