Hand painted porcelain expresses the emotional contention between the artist and subject. This lovely set of 6 hand painted b&b/dessert plates shows the artist's passion and understanding of beautiful wild roses and their presentation. Executed in a small home-studio environment, circa 1908-1911, they were executed on T&V Limoges porcelain blanks and initialed and dated by the artist.
Each plates is somewhat different in their capturing the gorgeous, soft pink, wild rose blossoms nestled among pastel green and tan foliage against a muted background of soft pink, blue and creamy yellow. The gently scalloped and embossed edge of the plates are decorated with brushed gold. Each plate is pictured to show variations. The plates measure 6 1/8" across and are stamped "T&V - Limoges - France - Depose", circa 1892-1907. Each is marked as follows, "E.R.C.J. 5th Anniversary"; "J.H.C. Dec 25, 1908"; "J.H.C. Sept 19, 1909"; "J.H.C. Sept 19. 1910"; "J.H.C Dec 25, 1910"; and "J.H.C 12-25-11". These were probably presented to the same individual as special gifts. There are no cracks, chips, repairs or wear; near mint and probably never used, only displayed. Have two other lots from this same collection in my store. Lovely.
