Frank Pennino founded the Pennino Jewelry Company NYC in 1926 making watch cases and fine costume jewelry using quality Austrian rhinestones and crystals and has the look of actual gemstones that were mounted in 14k gold plate or sterling silver. The company was very popular in the 1940's, known for fine designs and workmanship. The company ceased operations in 1961.
This truly classic floral motif brooch, circa 1940's, is composed of a large, gold vermeil flower with narrow, twisting petals and a center dome of diamond rhinestones. From this flower extends gold stems covered with delicate diamond four petal floral with ruby centers and larger blue sapphire floral with diamond centers. All the diamond and ruby rhinestones are round, while the blue sapphire sets are oval. The overall effect is a cascade of blossoms. The brooch measures 3 1/2" in length and 2 1/4" in width with safety clasp mechanism. Stamped "Pennino - Sterling", the brooch is in excellent vintage condition; several of the smaller diamond sets have discolored somewhat. Beautiful.
