Opalescent glass has been widely accepted since its inception in the 1880's. The major production covered 40 years (1880 - 1920) by famous American and European glass houses.
From Northwood Glass, this shape is simply the compote shape pulled into a rose bowl, The design consists of an embossed band of scales with loops of pearls above and below. The pinched ruffled top is opalescent.
This piece is a lovely green shade; the item was made in white, blue, green, vaseline and emerald green opalescent. It measures 3 1/2" across and 4 3/4" in height. There are several flakes on the top edge of the base. (see photo) There are no other cracks, chips or repairs. The rose bowl whimsey is rather scarce.
