This exquisite transfer decorated and gold oval handled nappy, circa 1920's, is decorated with a motif consisting of large peach-to-orange variegated nasturtium blossoms nestled among pale pastel green foliage. The stems, leaves and flowers are delicately outlined with gold with additional gold veins and stamens. The white blank has a gold panel to highlight the artwork and gold trimmed edge. The nappy measures 8" in length and 5 5/8" in width. It is stamped on ribbons "Bavarian China & Hand Painted" and the back-stamp of a crown, laurel leaves surrounding a crest and the initials P.T. Bavaria. This denotes the Tirschenreuther Porcelain Factory, operational from 1838-1927, when it was taken over by the Hutschereuther company. Transfer decorated porcelain items were many times marked 'hand painted' because the gold trim and sometimes enamel highlights were hand applied. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; some gold wear on the scalloped edge.
