Sarreguemines, France, is the location of Utzschneider and Company, founded about 1800, producers of majolica, dinnerware, figurines and novelties.
This wonderful majolica figural face liquor bottle/flask, circa 1880-1900, features a handsome French gentleman with a big smile, ruddy completion, reddish-brown hair and huge muttonchops. He is wearing a purplish hat, which forms the opening and handle. The bottle/flask measures 3 3/4" in height and 2 1/2" across the base. The base still has a thin layer of original paper label which is marked in ink "53"; you can distinguish an incised "21" and stamped "834" under the paper. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; overall light crazing; still has the original cork stopper. Great piece.
