Figural fairings are small decorated nineteenth century hard-paste porcelain objects, largely figural groups and covered boxes. They were usually produced in England and Germany and sold at country fairs during the last half of he 1800's.
This lovely, miniature ring or trinket box features a lid adorned with 3-dimensional setting of a young girl and her little dog companion playing on a titter-totter. The little girl has over-powered her dog weight-wise and the dog appears perplexed as to what to do next. The box is an ornately embossed chest with large mirror frame. The piece measures 3 1/2" long, 2 1/2" wide and 3 3/4" high. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; the gold gilt trim shows expected wear for its age.
