Metzler & Ortloff of Ilmenau, Thuringia, Germany, a company that made art porcelain, was founded in 1875 by brothers Rudolf and Robert Metzler and their partner, Hugo Ortloff. The company made figurines, dolls' heads and parts, kitchen items, gift-ware, and other items. Much of its production was made for export. The company closed in 1972.
This darling set of three figurines features mother cat and her two kittens, each playing with their own ball. The white and gray felines each have bow around their neck in varying shades of blue, while the balls that they are playfully engaging with are pale blue, light mauve and medium blue/gray. The mother measures 5 1/2" in length, while the kittens are 2 3/4" and 3" in length. Each is marked with Metzler & Ortloff mark used from 1923-1972. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Lovely set.
