The BIng & Grondahl Company was established in 1853 by Grondahl, who was a figurine maker for the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory, and the BIng brothers, who were art and book dealers. In 1987 the company merged with its primary competitor, under the name Royal Copenhagen.
This fantastic porcelain sculpture is entitled "Mother Love" by Ingebirg Plockross Irminger who created this sculpture of his wife Joanna and son Jon. The piece portrays a loving mother holding her young son in her arms. The child has his arms around his mother's neck and with faces close together are sharing a special moment together.
The figurine measures 11" in height with a base that is 10" by 7 1/2" in size. It is stamped in green with the 'Three Towers of Copenhagen - B & G - Kjobenhavn - Denmark ' in blue 'B & G' and green '1552 -S'; this stamp was used from 1962-1970. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. A lovely B & G sculpture.
