Royal Doulton has been producing porcelain ceramics and dinnerware for approximately 200 years. From a meager beginning in 1815, John Doulton, amassed one of the largest pottery and porcelain factories this world has ever known.
This wonderful 'character' figurine is one of many produced by the Doulton company and is named Sairey Gamp, a nurse with a taste for gin who appeared in Dickens' book Martin Chuzzlewit. Royal Doulton portrays her as a jolly lady with her umbrella and a sack of belongings. First series production was from 1932-1983. The figurine measures 4 1/4" in height. Stamped in black with the 'standard' Royal Doulton mark used from 1928 and forward. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Great figurine.
