The Charles Stuart Harris Company was established in London, England in 1852 and operated until 1904. The company was renamed Charles Stuart Harris & Sons from 1904 through 1933 when it closed.
This fabulous Georgian style pepper pot is designed in the popular urn shape with delicate reed-ed borders on the base and push-on lid. The body of the pot and base is profusely decorated with delicate plumes, floral and geometric shapes in a stylized back to nature Art Nouveau style. The pepper pot measures 3 3/4" in height, Stamped 'C S over H' into a trefoil for the maker 'Charles Stuart Harris; Sovereign Head duty mark; 'Lion' mark designating English sterling silver; 'G' date mark designating 1882 and 'Leopard Head' mark designating London. It is also stamped with the numerals '28'. It weighs 1.765 ounces. A beautiful piece of English 'Georgian Style' sterling silver.
