Hammersley & Co, Alsager Pottery, Longton, Staffordshire Potteries was formed in 1887. This lovely transfer decorated dessert set, circa 1920, is the Old County pattern. The lovely oriental motif of scrolls and floral is done in vivid shades of pink, blue, yellow and green with delicate brown, oriental tracery designs within the scrolls and gently scalloped border.
The set consists of 4 dessert and 4 demi-tasse cups and saucers. The dessert plates measure 8" across; the saucers measure 4 3/4" across; the cups measure 2 1/4" across and 2 3/8" in height. Each piece is stamped 'Old Country - by Hammersley - Made In England" with the logo of a crown, acorn and two oak leaves. Some pieces are also stamped 'Bone China'. Variations of this mark was used from 1912-1932, after which '& Co' was added. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. An extra dessert plate will be included free of charge. Beautiful set.
