Hand Painted china is beautiful no matter if executed in a factory decorating department, professional decorating studio or by skilled individuals in a home studio environment. During the late 1800's and early 1900's this became a favorite hobby of many American ladies who would purchase china blanks from various companies and create their own works of art.
This wonderful hand painted salt & pepper set, circa 1920's, was executed in a home studio environment. The motif consist of a stem of shaded pink to red wild rose blossoms and delicate variegated green and brown leaves encircling the pieces. The soft creamy background shows hints of blue and peach highlights, while the tops are decorated with gold. The gently twisted panels forming the pieces create a scalloped base. The shakers measure 2 3/4" in height and 2 1/4" across the base. Both items are stamped "Germany" and are artist signed "M Kellerstrass". There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint condition with original cork stoppers. Beautiful set to display or use.
