"Cheo" Mexican Sterling & Carved Onyx Aztec/Mayan Design Face Mask Brooch/Pendant
Onyx is known to separate. It can help release negative emotions such as sorrow and grief. It is used to end unhappy or bothersome relationships. Onyx guards against negativity. Onyx jewelry is worn to defend against negativity that is directed at you. Black stones have protective energies in the sense that black is the absence of light, and therefore, can be used to create invisibility.
This brooch/pendant is a wonderful example of Mexican craftsmanship, circa 1950's-1960's. The piece portrays a carved onyx pre-Columbian Aztec or Mayan design face mast. The face mask is framed by a silver and onyx inlay collar and gorgeous head-dress of silver and delicate abalone inlay. The piece measures 2 1/4" in length, 1 5/8" in width and has a safety clasp mechanism and ring for adding your favorite chain. It is stamped "Mexico 925 - Taxco Cheo" and the silhouette eagle stamp "185". Great condition with no damage and nice original patina.
