Jacob H. Stouffer was born in Adeline, Illinois. He opened his decorating studio in Chicago in 1905 which continued until 1952. The high period of Stouffer hand painted china appears to have spanned the years from 1905 to 1925. During this time the company employed some of the best decorators of that era.
This Beautiful hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1906-1914, is decorated with a geranium floral motif. The clusters of pastel pink to lavender blossoms on long slender green stems are highlighted by the variegated green and tan foliage. The design is delicately outlined and highlighted with gold. The plate measures 8 3/8" across and is artist initialed, which I believe relates to Kate McBride a listed Stouffer decorator. The plate is stamped in green "Haviland France" and the Stouffer mark #4 in red "Hand Stouffer Painted". There are no cracks, chips or repairs. The decorating is stunning.
