Electroforming allows the jewelry designer/manufacture to create uniquely designed hollow pieces of jewelry that are impossible to create by casting or stamping. It is a time consuming and expensive process that makes the jewelry pieces seamless and light weight.
When laymen talk about electroforming, they like to use the analogy of an M & M candy: if you sucked out the chocolate so that all you were left with was the shell, and if that shell were silver or gold, you'd have an electroform item.
These lovely and stylish earrings, circa 1970-1980, were created by an Israel silversmith. The earrings feature a round, recessed center decorated with black enamel, which is surrounded by a twisted rope wreath design. The earrings measure a comfortable 1 1/2" across, with clip-backs. Both are impressed "925" and impressed logo of the silversmith. Excellent vintage condition with no damages, some patina. Great fashion earrings.
