J.H.Stouffer Company, Chicago, was founded in 1905 and continued in business until 1952. Known as a premier china decorating establishment during the era of the other great Chicago decorating studios. Jacob H. Stouffer was the seventh of nine children, born in the village of Adeline in North Central, Illinois
This beautiful hand painted 6-piece set, circa 1906-1914, is decorated with a selection of Almonds and Filberts in their shells. The interior and exterior shades from creamy tan to light to dark brown. The round serving bowl has straight, slightly rounded sides, while the round individual cups have slightly flared sides; all pieces rest on three ball feet. The rim and feet are solidly decorated with gold.
The serving bowl measures 4 3/4" across and 1 3/4" in height. It is stamped in red with Mark #4 "Hand Stouffer Painted", and "Austria Princess Louise" for the blank manufacturer. The individual cups measure 2 1/2" across and 1 1/8" in height. They are each stamped "Prussia Royal Rudolstadt" for the blank manufacturer; they do not carry the Stouffer mark because of lack of space. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. A great set by a premier Chicago decorating studio.
