William Hobe immigrated to the United States from France in the first part of the twentieth century. The original family owned-and-operated jewelry company which began in 1927 was sold in the late 1990's or 2000. The Hobe mark is still being used today.
This beautiful sterling silver brooch, circa 1940's, is a neatly tied bow design with a large central blossom, attached leaves on the ribbons, unopened buds peeking out from beneath and two large, bezel mounted, amethyst rhinestones. One stone is round while the other is marquise shape. Not many of their sterling brooches had the added ornamentation of colored sets. The brooch measures 2 1/2" in length, 1 3/4" in width and has a safety clasp mechanism. It is stamped within a triangle imprint "Hobe - Sterling" . The sterling marks were used from 1941 -1947. In near mint condition with a wonderful darkened patina, probably has seldom been polished.
