Burgess & Campbell, International Pottery Company, Trenton, New Jersey, operated from 1879-1900. In 1900 the company became Burgess & Company after the withdrawal of Mr Campbell. An advertisement of the time stated, "our royal blue porcelain decorated in underglaze colors has been recently described as the finest porcelain of the American potters art".
These lovely dinner plates are the 'Royal Blue' or 'Balmoral' pattern, circa 1879-1888. They are decorated with rich flow blue floral and scrolls, accented with deep blue foliage outlined in gold. The gently scalloped edge has a delicate gold saw-tooth design. The dinner plates measure 9 3/4" across and are marked "Royal Blue Porcelain" in an oval with "B-C" in the center. Wonderful condition with no cracks, chips or repairs; overall light crazing, with few if any light utensil marks. Presently six (6) plates are available for sale. Beautiful pattern by an American manufacturer.
