The Peruzzi family of silversmiths originated in Florence, Italy, around 1900. Later the two sons took over the business, Guillermo Peruzzi staying in Italy while his brother emigrated to Boston where he produced sterling jewelry during the 1930-1940 era.
This lovely "Lyre" brooch, circa 1940's, was made in Italy. A lyre, chiefly known from ancient Greece, is a stringed instrument played by strumming with a pick. The brooch has excellent detailing features. It measures 2 1/4" in height, 1 1/4" in width and has a safety clasp mechanism. It is stamped "Sterling" and "Peruzzi". Wonderful condition with no damage and original patina.
