The Trifari Jewelry Company was created in 1918 by Gustavo Trifari who had immigrated to this country from Italy in 1904 and founded Trifari NYC in 1910. Considered one of the largest and best known producers of costume jewelry, producing he highest quality and styles from imaginative sterling vermeil figurals of the 1940's to its classic gold and silver-tone styles.
This wonderful 'Fly' brooch, circa 1940's, has a sterling silver body with gold vermeil overlay and round lucite jelly-belly body. Diamond rhinestones decorate the head and wings as well as red cabochon eyes. Delicate in size, the brooch measures one inch with a safety clasp mechanism. One wing is stamped with the crown mark and "Trifari Sterling" and the other wing is stamped "Design Pat. 137200". Great vintage condition with normal vermeil wear and original aged patina finish.
