Religious devotional figures have been hand carved from wood and created from other materials for centuries. The areas of the world where these wonderful figures were created are South America, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Philippines and New Mexico.
This fabulous devotional figure is of the Virgin Mary with an angel at her feet. Hand carved during the late 1700's or early 1800's, it probably originated in the Philippines or perhaps Mexico. It is worn from years of handling by loving hands, but still retains all the original features. Her head draped with long scarf, hands gently pressed together in prayer and the detailed features of a heavenly angel visitor at her feet. The figure stands 10" in height with remnants of the original white paint. Wonderful item.
