John Peters and Adam Reed founded their company just before 1900 in Zanesville, Ohio and operated the company until 1922 when it became known as Zane Pottery. Various lines were created including this standard shaded brown-ware decorated with applied pottery spriggs, all with a high glaze. Because many of the shapes were Weller molds it is unclear if they purchased the molds or pottery blanks from Weller.
This wonderful tankard mug is decorated on both sides with a grape and leaf sprigg design. The raised design in shades of amber, green and dark blue is stunning against the shaded brown background. Complimented with a decorative handle, the mug measures 5 1/2" in height, 3" across the top and 3 1/2" across the base. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Great piece.
